1927年(昭和2年)長野県須坂市生まれ。1951年 早稲田大学工学部建築学科卒業後、同大教授の「佐藤武雄設計事務所」に勤務。1964年 家業の設計事務所を継ぐために帰郷。同社を「宮本忠長建築事務所」と改組。代表取締役として現在にいたる。1970年代より「栗ガ丘小学校」をはじめとする小布施町の公共建築を手がけ、1980年代には「北斎館」「高井鴻山記念館」「小布施堂」「長野信金小布施支店」などを中心とした町並み修景事業のデザイン・設計・監督を務める。1982年 長野市立博物館で日本建築学会賞受賞。小布施町並み修景事業では1987年に吉田五十八賞、1990年に毎日芸術賞を受賞。代表作品として、松本市の「松本市美術館」などがある。

Born in Suzaka City, Nagano in 1927, Miyamoto joined the architectural firm of Waseda University faculty member Takeo Sato after graduating from the university's School of Engineering with a major in architecture in 1951. In 1964 he returned to his hometown to take over the family architectural office, changing its name to Tadanaga Miyamoto Architect and Associates. He continues to serve as representative director of the company today. In the 1970s he undertook public buildings in Obuse such as the Kurigaoka Elementary School. In the 1980s he was involved with the design, planning and supervision of the Townscape Restoration Project in Obuse, centered on the Hokusai Museum, Takai Kozan Memorial Hall, Obusedo and Nagano Shinkin Bank. He received the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize for the Nagano City Museum in 1982, while for the Obuse Townscape Restoration Project he received the Isoya Yoshida Award in 1987 and the Mainichi Art Award in 1990. A representative example of his work is the Matsumoto City Museum of Art.
