1958年(昭和33年)岡山市生まれ。デザインの領域を広くとらえて、多方面にわたるコミュニケーション・プロジェクトに携わる。長野オリンピックの開・閉会式プログラムでは日本文化に深く根をおろすデザインを展開。また2000年の「松屋銀座店」リニューアル計画では空間からグラフィックを横断する複合デザイン・ディレクションを実践する。一方、展覧会「建築家たちのマカロニ展」「Re Design−日常の21世紀」では、企画者として日常デザインへの視点を示唆。東京ADC賞、亀倉雄策賞、第17回国際インダストリアルビエンナーレ大賞、2000年度毎日デザイン賞など、内外の受賞も多数。

Born in 1958 in Okayama, Hara takes
a broad view of the field of design and is involved in communication
projects in a variety of fields. His design for the Official Programs
for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Olympic Winter Games
in Nagano was deeply rooted in Japanese culture. For the renewal
of the Ginza Matsuya department store in 2000, he took a comprehensive
approach that encompassed both spatial and graphic design. At the
same time, in shows such as "Exhibition of Macaroni by Architects"
and "Re-Design: Everyday Life in the 21st Century" he focused attention
as a planner on everyday objects. Among his many awards received
at home and abroad are the Tokyo Art Directors Club Award, the Yusaku
Kamekura Award, the Grand Prix at the 17th Biennial of Industrial
Design and the Mainichi Design Award for 2000.
