1953年 東京都生まれ。1977年 一橋大学社会学部卒、1979年 同経済学部卒業。1981年 同大学院社会研究科修士課程修了。1990年 ハーバード大学Ｐｈ．Ｄ．取得（歴史学）。経営史を専攻し、資本主義社会の中で人間がダイナミックに生きる方策を研究。現在のような全世界の変革期にこそ、前向きに行動する意味と成果があると提唱し続けている。一橋大学イノベーション研究センターでは、ベンチャービジネスの先端動向を、軽快なフットワークで詳細にフォロー。「日本におけるＩＴ革命は終わったどころか、まだ始まってさえもいない」と持論を展開する。
趣味はテニス、ゴルフ、ロックンロール。『一橋ビジネスレビュー』編集委員長も務め、学生間の人気も高い。
主な著書に『経営革命の構造』（1999年、岩波書店）、『ネオＩＴ革命』（2000年、講談社）、『勇気の出る経営学』（2001年、筑摩書房）、『ジャパニーズ・ドリーマーズ』（2002年、ＰＨＰ新書）など。

Born in Tokyo in 1953. Received BAs from Hitotsubashi University's Faculty of Social Sciences in 1977 and its Faculty of Economics in 1979. Received an MA from Hitotsubashi University's Graduate School of Social Sciences in 1981 and a PhD in History from Harvard University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1990. A specialist in the history of business management, Yonekura researches methods for living dynamically in capitalist society and advocates the view that positive action is especially meaningful and effective in times of global change like these. Yonekura nimbly keeps a close watch on the latest trends in venture business at the Hitotsubashi University Institute of Innovation Research, asserting that "the IT revolution in Japan not only hasn't ended - it hasn't even begun." His main area of research covers the historical development process of business management, with the focus on innovation found in business strategies and an organization's history.
Editor-in-chief of the Hitotsubashi Business Review, Yonekura enjoys tennis, golf and rock 'n' roll and has a strong following among his students.
