1950年、横浜市生まれ。74年、早稲田大学理工学部建築学科卒業。76年、早大大学院修士課程修了。76から78年まで、スペイン、マドリッドにある「フェルナンド・イゲーラス建築設計事務所」勤務。帰国後、79から81年まで「菊竹清訓建築設計事務所」勤務。81年「内藤廣建築設計事務所」設立。2001年、東京大学大学院社会基盤工学（土木工学科）教授に就任。
　主な作品に「海の博物館（三重県鳥羽市・92年）」、「安曇野ちひろ美術館（長野県松川村・97年）」、「茨城県天心記念五浦美術館（茨城県北茨城市・97年）」、「十日町情報館（新潟県十日町・99年）」、「牧野富太郎記念館（高知県高知市・99年）」、「倫理研究所　富士高原研修所（静岡県御殿場市・2001年）、「ちひろ美術館・東京（東京都練馬区・02年）」などがある。
「海の博物館」で「芸術選奨文部大臣新人賞」「日本建築学会賞」「吉田五十八賞」（いずれも93年）をトリプル受賞。「牧野富太郎記念館」では「第13回村野藤吾賞」「IAA国際トリエンナーレ　グランプリ」「第42回毎日芸術賞」（いずれも2000年）に加え、「第42回BCS賞」（01年）も受賞。
「建築は未来に向けてつくり出されるもの」として「時間と共生する建築」の実践と理論構築を続ける姿勢に、内外から高い評価を得ている。
　主な著作に「素形の建築（INAX出版・95年）」、「建築のはじまりに向かって（王国社・99年）」など。

Born in Yokohama in 1950, Naito graduated from the Department of Architecture at Waseda University's School of Science and Engineering in 1974, then received his master's degree from the same university's graduate school in 1976. Between 1976 and 1978, he worked in the architectural offices of Fernando Higueras in Madrid, Spain. After returning to Japan, he worked in the architectural offices of Kiyonori Kikutake between 1979 and 1981, then established Naito Architect & Associates in 1981. In 2001 he was named Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo, becoming a full Professor in 2002.

For the Sea-Folk Museum, Naito was awarded the Minister of Education Award for New Artists, the Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan and the Isoya Yoshida Memorial Prize, all in 1993. The Makino Museum of Plants and People earned him the 13th Togo Murano Award, the Grand Prix of the IAA World Triennial of Architecture and the 42nd Mainichi Art Award in 2000 as well as the 42nd Building Contractors Society Prize in 2001.

Naito's theoretical and practical pursuit of "architecture facing the future" and "buildings in symbiosis with time" has earned him high domestic and international praise.

Naito's publications include Protoform Architecture (1995; INAX Publishing) and Toward the Beginning of Architecture (1999; Okokusha).
