Born in Kagoshima in 1955, Hanado began work as an assistant director in 1977 while studying film at Nihon Universityユs College of Art. He learned his trade hands-on at a time when there was more energy in the メRomantic Pornoモ produced by the Toei and Nikkatsu studios than in regular films.
He began directing dramatic works in 1984, earning high ratings and a sparkling debut in television soap operas with Ai no arashi (Love Storm), a literary retelling of Wuthering Heights in an early-Showa Period setting. He continued working in television dramas, directing work such as Hana no arashi (Tempest of Flowers), Hoteru Uman (Hotel Woman) and Eien no ko (Forever Child), which received the Galaxy Prize. Meanwhile, he also undertook work in direct-to-video films such as Shin wangan middonaito 1 & 2 (New Gulf Midnight 1 & 2).

In 2001, Hanado made his cinematic directorial debut with Hitsuji no uta (Lament of a Lamb), based on a comic book of the same name by Kei Tome that was popular among young people. That same year, the film was officially selected for the Tokyo International Film Festival Competition, where he received high marks for his trademark attention to detail in depicting human drama.
His second work as a cinematic director was Yume oikakete (Touch a Dream), the moving true story of Junユichi Kawai, a three-time blind Paralympian who became a junior high school teacher despite being totally blind. Recent work includes Furyo shonen no yume (A Delinquentユs Dream) in 2005 and Anata wo wasurenai (I Wonユt Forget You), a 2006 Japanese-Korean collaboration commemorating the 2005 Year of Friendship. 2006 will also see the release of KOOLS, a film about a softball team put together by women with gender identity disorders.
