[profile]
After graduating from Tokyo University,
he After graduating from Japan University, Shimojo earned diplomas
in more than twenty types of therapy and as a psychological counselor,
studying both in Japan and abroad, including the San Francisco State
University Institute for Holistic Healing Studies and courses in
Eastern Medicine at Union College. Shimojo looks back on this period
as one in which he studied a great deal but was a clumsy and not
particularly skilled therapist. Today he has developed a therapeutic
method that involves patients as active participants and prioritizes
personal responsibility. Seeing illnesses and symptoms as signs,
he takes a holistic approach involving mind, body, environment,
diet, thought and spirituality to treat conditions such as psychiatric
disorders, infertility, temporomandibular arthrosis and cancer.
Grateful for what he had learned from 60,000 patients over fifteen
years of practice, and anxious to share it, Shimojo established
Natural Medical in 1997. At the same time, he presided over Medical
Academy, serving doctors and politicians. He has hosted child-rearing
seminars and classes for patients on how to take control over their
care in more than 150 locations around the country. This June he
established the non-profit World Holistic Association (WHA) together
with doctors, dentists, therapists and patients in Japan and around
the world as a way to further broaden the circle of holistic medicine.
(Is There
Love in Sickness and Pain?), published by Bungeisha.
