1951年 イギリス、ヨークシャー生まれ。5歳でカナダに移住。クラシック音楽に興味を持ち、音楽大学に入学。1年時に、フルートの演奏技術を学ぶ目的でロンドンに渡る。1年後カナダに戻りクラッシックギターの製作、クラッシック音楽の作曲(この分野で何度か奨学金を受ける)、青年音楽隊やオーケストラの指揮、ジャズのバリトンサックス演奏、ロックバンドのベースギター演奏、楽譜販売店でのアルバイトなど、10年間、幅広く音楽活動を行う。その後トロントで2年間、会社のマネージャーとして働く間、本格的にコンピュータプログラミングを学び、顧客データシステム化に成功。この頃日本への関心が芽生え、1980年には、第1作目の版画を製作。翌年、3ヶ月間日本に滞在し、版画に関する基本的知識を習得、帰国後も独学を続ける。1986年に再び渡日して、第一線で活躍する版画師に師事。
1989年、勝川春章の百人一首を10年かけて復刻するプロジェクトに着手、1998月に完成。日本中の注目を集める。その後は「摺物アルバム」、「四季の美人」と続き、2005年は「版画玉手箱」を発表予定。
 ホームページでは、自分が身に付けてきた木版画に関する知識を多くの人と分かち合いたいという願いから「木版画総合百科辞典」を執筆中。

Born in Yorkshire, England in 1951, David Bull immigrated to Canada at the age of 5. Because of his interests in classical music, he decided to attend a music school instead of enrolling in a regular university. To study technique of flute performance, he went over to London for one year. After returning to Canada, he performed widely and took part in music related activities of all scopes and genres for ten years. He has done much music related work here and there; such as producing classic guitars, writing classical music( he has received numerous scholarships in this field), directing a youth orchestra, playing baritone sax, playing bass guitar in a rock band, and working at music shops.
After the ten years spent in Canada, he took a job in London, where while working as company manager he began learning computer programming to systemize old company data. At the about the same time, his interest towards Japan began to develop, and in 1980 he produced his first art print. Next year, he was able to come to Japan for three months to study the fundamentals of art printing. Even after leaving Japan, he continued his learning through self-study. In 1986, he came back to Japan where he was able to work as an apprentice to a print master.
In 1989, he launched a 10 year long reprint project メ100 poems of 100 famous poets by Katsukawa Shunsho.モ The project gathered much attention throughout Japan and was finally completed in 1998. After that, he continued with メ The Printed Material Albumモ and メ Beauties of four-seasons.モ In 2005 he plans to present the メ Art print treasure box.モ
Many people have asked him to share his knowledge of wood-block printing, so due to this demand, he has is currently writing a メGeneral Encyclopedia of Wood-Block Printing.モ
