東京都出身。
1977年 上智大学文学部新聞学科卒業、留学・休学を経て1994年 同大学院文学研究科博士前期課程修了。1979年 NHKの番組キャスターを務める。「海外ウィークリー」「サンデースポーツスペシャル」他。1981年 英国ロイヤルウェディング、1988年 ソウルオリンピック現地メインキャスター 等。1987年 中京女子大学客員教授（コミュニケーション論）。1992年-1996年 テレビ東京系列「ワールド･ビジネスサテライト」メインキャスター。2001年3月-2005年3月 日興フィナンシャル・インテリジェンス株式会社理事長。2002年 アサヒビール株式会社取締役現任。2002年 三洋電機株式会社取締役現任。2004年-2005年3月 株式会社ニッポン放送取締役現任。2005年 三洋電機株式会社代表取締役会長現任。沖縄振興審議会（内閣府）、財政制度審議会委員（財務省）、中央教育審議会委員(文部科学省)、法制審議会委員（法務省）等で審議会・委員会等メンバー。NPO法人スペシャル・オリンピックス日本顧問、NPO法人金融知力普及協会理事も務める。
主な著書に「手ごたえのある女(わたし)の人生が始まる本」（三笠書房）など。

Born in Tokyo.
1977 Graduated from the Newspaper Department of the Sophia University Faculty of Letters. After time off and study abroad, she completed the first half of her doctoral studies at the Sophia University Graduate Division of Humanities in 1994.
1979 Began work as a broadcast announcer for NHK, appearing on programs such as Overseas Weekly and Sunday Sports Special. Covered the 1981 royal wedding in Great Britain and the 1988 Seoul Olympics as the main on-site newscaster.
1987 Guest lecturer in communication theory at Chukyo Women's University.
1992-1996 Anchor for World Business Satellite for TV Tokyo.
2001-2005 Chairman of the Board, Nikko Financial Intelligence, Inc.
2002- Director, Asahi Breweries, Ltd.

Nonaka is a member of the Okinawa Development Council (Cabinet Office), Fiscal System Council (Ministry of Finance), Central Council for Education (Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports, Science and Technology) and the Legislative Council (Ministry of Justice). She also serves as an Advisor to Special Olympics Nippon and a Director of the Association for the Promotion of Financial Literacy. Publications include Tegotae on aru watashi no jinsei ga hajimaru hon (A Woman's Handbook for Beginning a Life of Substance) [Mikasa Shobo].
