早稲田大学政治経済学部政治学科卒、東京大学新聞研究所終了。 出版社勤務を経て、1980年フリーとなる。 1984年季刊の地域雑誌『谷中・根津・千駄木』（愛称「谷根千〈やねせん〉」発刊。女性３人のスタッフで1万部を発行。赤レンガの東京駅保存、不忍池の自然環境保全などの活動に参加。 毎回、朝日新聞書評委員を務める。

現在は、文部科学省文化審議委員として文化財の保護にかかわる。小布施に疎開した林柳波・きむ子夫妻についての著作『大正美人伝』（文芸春秋）あり。

[Profile]
Graduated from the Waseda University School of Political Economics, Political Science department and finished at the Tokyo University Newspaper Research Center. Began work at a publishing company and went freelance in 1980. In 1984 she began publishing the regional quarterly magazine "Yanaka - Nezu - Sendagi" (often abbreviated to Yanesen). With just a staff of three women they published 10,000 copies. Participates in activities to preserve the red brick Tokyo Station and maintain the environment at Shinobazu-no-ike. Works as a reviewer for each issue of the Asahi Shimbun.

She is also involved with the protection of cultural assets as a member of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Culture Deliberation Committee. Author of the "Taisho Beauty Chronicle," (Bungei Shunju) about Ryuha and Kimuko Hayashi who escaped to Obuse.
