Graduated from the Waseda University School of Political Economics, Political Science department and finished at the Tokyo University Newspaper Research Center. Began work at a publishing company and went freelance in 1980. In 1984 she began publishing the regional quarterly magazine "Yanaka - Nezu - Sendagi" (often abbreviated to Yanesen). With just a staff of three women they published 10,000 copies. Participates in activities to preserve the red brick Tokyo Station and maintain the environment at Shinobazu-no-ike. Works as a reviewer for each issue of the Asahi Shimbun.

She is also involved with the protection of cultural assets as a member of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Culture Deliberation Committee. Author of the "Taisho Beauty Chronicle," (Bungei Shunju) about Ryuha and Kimuko Hayashi who escaped to Obuse.
