1941年東京生まれ。
信濃デッサン館・無言館館主、作家。
印刷工、店員、酒場の経営などを経て、64年、東京都世田谷区に小劇場運動の草分けとなる「キッド・アイラック・アート・ホール」を設立。79年、長野県上田市に夭折画家のデッサンを展示する「信濃デッサン館」を、97年、同館隣接地に戦没画学生慰霊美術館「無言館」を創設。

主な著書
『父への手紙』『「明大前」物語』(筑摩書房)、『信濃デッサン館日記』『無言館の坂道』『雁と雁の子』(平凡社)、『無言館ノオト』『石榴と銃』『鬼火の里』(集英社)、『無言館への旅』『高間筆子幻景』(白水社)など著書多数。

第46回産経児童出版文化賞、第14回地方出版文化功労賞、第7回信毎賞を受賞。
2005年、「無言館」の活動で第53回菊池寛賞受賞。

Born in Tokyo in 1941.
Curator of the Shinano Drawing Museum and the Museum of Silence, Author.
Worked as a printer, in retail, and as a brewery administrator, then in 1964 he founded the "Kid Ailack Art Hall" in Setagaya, Tokyo, pioneering the small theater movement. In 1979 he founded the "Shinano Drawing Museum" in Ueno City, Nagano to display the works of artists who died young, and in 1997 founded the "Museum of Silence" to memorialize art students who died in the war.
