1959年、東京都生まれ。本名は耕介。300年の歴史を持つ加賀藩お抱えの野村万蔵家の直系長男として生まれ、祖父六世万蔵、父初世萬(ともに人間国宝、芸術院会員)の薫陶を3歳から受ける。1995年、五世万之丞を襲名し、万蔵家八代目当主、「萬狂言」代表となる。重要無形文化財総合指定。社団法人能楽協会理事。2001年、フランス芸術文化勲章シュバリエを受賞。
古くて新しい東西文化の融合を提唱し、21世紀の文化産業を創造するべく「考え=Think」「創り=Make」「行動する=Do」全国組織、「TMDネットワーク」を統括する。
活動は多岐に渡る。“場づくり”をするプロデューサーとしては「長野冬期パラリンピック閉会式」「国民文化祭 ぎふ」「NAC新潟アジア文化祭」「福岡市アジア太平洋フェスティバル」など、全国各地の地域振興から国際大会までの各ジャンルに渡るイベントをプロデュース。
“モノづくり”をするディレクターとしては、NHK大河ドラマ『太平記』『炎立つ』『秀吉』『利家とまつ』の芸能考証、楽劇の『大田楽』や『真伎楽』などの創作と演出を務める。また、京都造形芸術大学、国士舘大学の教授、東京大学、日本女子大学、千葉大学の特別講師などを務めつつ、“人づくり”をする「アーティスト」として、各地で文化講演会、ワークショップを行う。俳優としては年間200ステージの公演活動を行う、マルチ人間である。

Mannojo Nomura was born Kosuke Nomura in Tokyo in 1959, the direct male heir to the Manzo Nomura family and its 300-year history of Kyogen performance dating back to the days of patronage by the Maeda Clan. He began training under his father, Man I, and grandfather, Manzo VI (both Living National Treasures and members of the Japan Art Academy) at the age of 3. In 1995 he succeeded to the name Mannojo V, taking over as 8th head of the Manzo family and representative of Yorozu Kyogen. He has been designated an Important Intangible Cultural Asset (group category). Mannojo is a Director of The Association for Japanese Noh Plays and was honored in 2001 with the Grand Chevalier of Arts and Literature by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.

Mannojo leads TMD Network, a national organization that advocates "Thinking, Making and Doing" in developing twenty-first century cultural industries through a fusion of the timeless cultures of East and West.
Mannojo's activities cover a wide range. As a creator of situations, he has produced events around the country that range from regional development to international competition and include the Closing Ceremony for the Nagano Paralympic Winter Games, the National Cultural Festival in Gifu, the Niigata Asian Culture Festival and the Fukuoka City Asian Pacific Festival.

As a director of creative enterprises, he has served as artistic advisor for NHK epic historical dramas like Taiheki, Honoo-tatsu, Hideyoshi and Toshiie to Matsu and written and performed in musical dramas such as Dai-dengaku and Shin-gigaku. As an artist training people, he holds lectures and workshops around the country and holds positions as a professor at the Kyoto University of Art and Design and Kokushikan University and as a special lecturer at the University of Tokyo, Japan Women's University and Chiba University. Multi-talented, he also appears on stage in roughly 200 performances a year.
